Caught one! Can I keep it?

Looks its a cloud...Oooooo. Doesn't look like much, but she was a "rotatin"..

Successful intercept today...Caught a rotating wall cloud. Not much to show for it as I was in the wrong place when it presented itself. I saw "wrong place" is in it passed right over my truck. I quickly scanned the ground in the fields for any debris or a small vortices trying to sneak up on me. I caught a quick video clip of it before it lowered more and winds of around 60mph slammed me. I captured the rotation while on the phone with the NWS. It was closing on my location very rapidly and I had to hop in the truck and outrun it heading east. The pic really leaves a lot to be desired. Really stinks that I have nothing to show for it. Flooding is a real problem in my county with all this rain passing over the same areas all afternoon. My dear mom's pond was below the banks but with in an hour the run off from the fields caused it rise 3 feet and to over flow. Talk about a flash flood! We currently have bass swimming in the back yard. I was watching the small bass swim in the yard chasing after smaller fish. A drainage pipe is to blame for the over flow. Not sure of how much rain we have gotten but I think its over 5 inches so far..Just checked, 5.5 inches of rain for us today!! the pond out back has gotten to within 20 feet of the house. Glad the rains gone! Enjoy the video posted .It isn't much as I was really doing spotter duties than chaser stuff today. But at least it is something.. Was nice to chat with everyone on 2 meter radio today up in Albany. Been a while since KI4CRT has been on the air.. video

9 weather goobs have entered the vortex...:

That was some strong rotation during the last 15 seconds of that video. Great job Rick. You may have helped save someone's life with that storm report.

You were way too close! Great capture, Rick.

Yeah Mikey, that's the best part of the video. I was right on the edge of my county and was being more spotter than chaser for this event. Too many people needing info from me at once. Didnt mind it, just wish had a little more video, but this thing jogging to the right at the last minute and found me. Proof positive a partner is needed when chasing...

Dewdrop, yes it was to close! Had it stayed on its course it would have passed in front of me at about 4 miles. Little jog to the right and "Hello there." I was in the process of setting the video up for a time lapse recording and run out of time. I gave it a shot as it was on the outer edge of the precip and visibility was really great.

Hey! Glad to hear from you Steve! Yes, I did release it unharmed and back into the wild. It should grow into a nice storm for someone to catch again one day..LOL!!
