TS Fay "The Mother in law storm"
Yes Fay is still around and just down the road a bit. She still looks good but a little more ragged around the edges now. She is forecast to pull west and pass just to my south so it looks like a major rain event for us. Maybe 4 to 6 inches and we need it as we have been in drought conditions for about 2 years now. Flooding will still be a problem though. Not much of a tornado threat but I will keep an eye open. So other than that I intend on just enjoying the rain and cool weather. This intercept was a first for me as it was the first time I had went after a land falling storm. I learned a lot from this chase. It was a lot like sitting inside a severe thunderstorm for 12 hours but with no lightning or thunder. Being I was alone it was hard to get pics or shot video as I would like. I was really to involved with driving as I should have been. There were more times than not that I was blown into the other lane from a powerful gust. Camera gear had to be kept out of the weather as much as possible and keeping the inside of the truck a constant temp was a necessity as if it was too cold or too warm the cameras would fog up or get condensation in them and stop working. All this aside to stand there and let this rain hit you in the face, stinging to the point you have to look away for a moment, leaning into the wind and hear it roaring in the wires overhead and then the calm as the center passes overhead. There is nothing like it. There will be stronger ones to come our way one day and I hope to be there in the middle of it again...
As for the "Mother in-law" remark? Well she is female and she has seemingly moved in and overstayed her welcome. She constatntly will not do what is expected of her and continues to drag up everyones trash. ;-)
Later Y'all
