Time to fly...
I had the chance to see history today. The "Wings of Freedom tour" landed here in my small town. Two World War II era aircraft were on display for the public to tour and even take 30 minute flights on. I didn't have the $425 it cost to take the flight but I did crawl through the aircraft and take some shots. The aircraft are a B17G "Flying Fortress " and a B24J "Liberator" bomber. The name of the B17 is "Nine O Nine" and the name of the B24 is "Witchcraft"
The aircraft flew missions over Germany during WWII. The funny thing about these aircraft is they look so much bigger on the old war footage you see on TV. They are not made for us that have put on a "few" extra pounds. It was a very tight squeeze while making my way inside the aircraft from the front to the rear. I almost got stuck in the bomb bay area on the B17. ;-) There are about 10 or 11 of these B17s aircraft still flying today but this was the only B24 in the world still capable of flying!! It costs about $4,000 per hour to operate the B17 aircraft. Here are a couple of shots of the "Witchcraft" B24.
